Attaching a managed vault
A vault managed by a storage node can be attached to another storage node. You might need to do
so when retiring the storage node hardware, when the storage node is lost or when balancing loads
between storage nodes. As a result, the first node stops managing the vault, and the second one
starts managing the vault.
Note: Personal, centralized unmanaged and tape-based vaults cannot be attached.
To attach a managed vault to a storage node, perform the following steps.
Vault
Storage node
Select the Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Storage Node that will manage the vault.
Path
Specify the path to the location where the archives are stored.
Vault database
[Optional] The vault database contains the metadata of backups and archives stored in the
vault. By default, the vault database is located in the
%AllUsersProfile%\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\ASN\VaultMetadataDatabases folder of the
machine where the storage node is installed. Normally, when detaching a vault from the
storage node, the vault database is copied from its default location to this vault. While
attaching the vault, the software searches for the database in the vault. If the vault database
is found, it is automatically copied to the default location on the storage node the vault is
being attached to. If the database cannot be found in the vault, you will be asked to specify
the path to it manually. In case the vault database cannot be found in the folder you specify,
the new storage node retrieves the metadata and re-creates the database in its default
location.
Deduplication database
[Optional] The software searches for the deduplication database automatically. If the
database cannot be found automatically, you can specify the path to it manually. If the
database cannot be found in the folder you specify, it will be re-created there. The
deduplication database re-creation may take a long time to perform.
Password
For the encrypted vault, provide the encryption password.
After you have performed all the required steps, click OK to commit to attaching the vault.
If the required databases are not found, the attaching procedure may last for quite a while since the
storage node has to scan the archives, write the metadata in the database, and deduplicate the
archives if the vault was originally deduplicating.
6.1.3 Personal vaults
A vault is called personal if it was created using direct connection of the console to a managed
machine. Personal vaults are specific for each managed machine. Personal vaults are visible to any
user that can log on to the system. A user's right to back up to a personal vault is defined by the
user's permission for the folder or device where the vault is located.
A personal vault can be organized on a network share, FTP server, detachable media or removable,
Acronis Online Backup Storage, tape device, or on a hard drive local to the machine. Acronis Secure
